Director Alex Garland's Civil War follow-up Warfare is new in theaters. How long will it be before the film arrives on streaming?
Rated R, Warfare plays in Thursday previews before opening in theaters in wide release on Friday. The summary for the film reads, 'Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood, told like never before: in real-time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.'
Co-directed by Garland and Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, Warfare stars Charles Melton, Will Poulter, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Cosmo Jarvis, Joseph Quinn and Kit Connor. Mendoza previously designed the battle scenes for Garland's Civil War.
Currently, the only way you can see Warfare is in theaters, so check local listings for showtimes.
Warfare's first stop in the home entertainment market will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. Warfare's studio, A24, generally makes their films available on PVOD a month after they open in theaters in wide release. Since A24 is an independent studio, it often opens films in limited release before they are released wide.
Like Civil War, however, Warfare is set for a wide domestic release.
So, for example, A24's Oscar-winning historical epic The Brutalist opened in wide release on Jan. 24 before it pivoted to a PVOD release on Feb. 20.
Additionally, A24 released the Nicole Kidman erotic thriller Babygirl in theaters on Dec. 25, 2024, and it arrived on PVOD on Jan. 28.
If Warfare follows the same pattern, viewers can expect the film to debut on PVOD anytime between May 13 and May 20, since new releases on PVOD generally come out on Tuesdays.
Note: The trailer below contains swearing and scenes of violence.
Since A24 has a deal with Max to stream its films first, Warfare will first be available on the Warner Bros. Discovery platform on streaming video on demand.
Viewers can subscribe to Max for $9.99 per month with ads or $16.99 per month without ads. Also, Max has an ad-free streaming tier for $20.99 per month that features its programming in 4K Ultra HD.
Typically it takes four months for A24's films to arrive on SVOD on Max. For example, the Hugh Grant horror thriller Heretic debuted on SVOD on Max on March 7, just shy of four months after the film's theatrical release on Nov. 8, 2024.
Additionally, Nicole Kidman's Babygirl is set to arrive on Max on April 25, four months after it opened in theaters on Dec. 25, 2024.
If Warfare follows the same pattern as Heretic and Babygirl, then viewers should expect the film to arrive on SVOD on Max sometime around July 11, since new films on Max generally debut on Fridays.
Warfare is playing in Thursday previews and opens in theaters in wide release on Friday.

Kevin Costner Fires Back at ‘Patently False' Allegation Over ‘Horizon 2' Rape Scene: ‘An Absolute Nightmare'

Kevin Costner has fired back at a lawsuit from a 'Horizon 2' stunt performer who claims that she was forced to perform an unscripted rape scene in violation of union protocols. In a motion to throw out the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Costner said the allegations are 'patently false' and 'deeply disappointing' and were designed to damage his reputation. More from Variety 'Horizon 2' Intimacy Coordinator Documented Rape Scene Complaint: 'Protocols Were Abandoned' Kevin Costner Sued by Stunt Performer Over Unscripted 'Horizon 2' Rape Scene Kevin Costner Premieres 'Horizon: Chapter 2' in Santa Barbara, But There's No News on Next Two Installments 'I can only assume that purpose was to use this sensationalistic language to embarrass and damage me and the 'Horizon' movies on an ongoing basis in order to gain a massive and unjustified payday,' Costner said in a court declaration. 'Equally as bad, having to read about and address allegations I know to be false involving the words 'rape' and 'assault' has been an absolute nightmare.' Devyn LaBella sued Costner in May for sexual harassment and for creating a hostile work environment. She alleged that Costner improvised a scene in which an actor straddled her and raked up her skirt in an aggressive manner. The intimacy coordinator on the film later documented lapses in protocols during the scene, including a lack of planning, communication and the lack of a closed set. In response, Costner stated that it was not a 'rape scene,' and that while rape was implied, there was no nudity or simulated sex. 'This was one artistic shot designed to imply what was going to happen off-screen, and purposely was not a 'simulated rape' as Devyn now falsely describes it,' he stated. Costner and his company are seeking to throw out the suit under California's anti-SLAPP law, which is designed to protect free speech on matters of public concern. Marty Singer, Costner's attorney, wrote in the motion that 'Horizon 2' — which has yet to be released — addresses 'the horrific struggles endured by women' in the American West in the post-Civil War era, 'including their extreme vulnerability to rape and other forms of violence,' and that therefore it qualifies for protection under the anti-SLAPP law. In an anti-SLAPP motion, the losing side has the right to appeal immediately, which will likely delay the case for a year or more regardless of the outcome at the trial court. The motion includes declaration from many crew members who maintain that the shot was not out of the ordinary. Roger Ivens, the other performer in the scene, stated that LaBella offered a 'false and sensationalist' description of the scene in her lawsuit, in which she characterized it as depicting a violent rape. 'It is not what happened,' Ivens stated. 'This was not in any way, shape, or form a simulated sex scene.' Wade Allen, the stunt coordinator who hired and supervised LaBella, also stated that the scene involved 'no intimacy, no nudity, no sexual conduct or sexual movement of any kind.' He also stated that LaBella gave him a thumbs up before and after the run-through, and seemed upbeat and enthusiastic about the experience. 'At no point that day did she evidence any distress or discomfort, or any concern about what she had been asked to do,' Allen stated. In response to the filing, LaBella's lawyer, James Vagnini, said that LaBella's professional demeanor does not undermine her allegations, and noted that her claims have been corroborated by the intimacy coordinator and other witnesses and text messages. 'This filing is continued evidence that one of Hollywood's most powerful men is trying to skirt accountability for reckless and harmful behavior,' Vagnini said. 'This baseless motion is nothing but a desperate delay tactic from a panicked legal team with no real defense. The only things damaging Kevin Costner's reputation are his own reckless, harmful behavior and the offensive narrative he's spreading to cover it up.' Nicole Kidman Shows Off Natural Curly Hair

When Nicole Kidman shot to worldwide fame in the late '80s and early '90s, she famously always rocked her incredible, voluminous curls. More recently, however, Nicole has become known for her straight hair — not to mention her viral, on-screen wigs, which aren't always so well-received amongst fans. Earlier this year, Nicole expressed regret over her decision to straighten her curls. Speaking in a video interview with Allure, she looked back on an old photograph of herself and said, 'Why did I straighten my hair? I loved my hair there. That is my natural hair. Isn't that crazy?' Well, this week, Nicole shared a rare glimpse at her natural curls in an Instagram carousel. In the first video, Nicole can be seen swimming underwater with her gorgeous curls flowing behind her. In another, she embraced her 17-year-old daughter, Sunday, while once again flaunting her natural hair. And it's safe to say that everyone is obsessed with Nicole's curls. 'Love your hair natural,' one person wrote under her post, while another said, 'Let the curls run free! Beautiful.' 'Thank you for sharing your real hair,' one person wrote, while actor Reese Witherspoon echoed, 'Look at all that gorgeous hair !' I, too, am definitely obsessed with Nicole's curls.
