This Is How You 'Win' A Breakup, According To Relationship Experts
'Breakups are an emotional thing,' dating expert Emma Hathorn of Seeking.com told HuffPost. 'They pick at our insecurities, make us worry that we were the problem, cause us to overthink, to comb through the arguments and the days that led up to that concrete ending.'
We all want to bounce back stronger. But instead of going after a revenge body or finding a rebound to hook up with (no judgment, been there) or any of the other breakup clichés, consider taking this opportunity to reclaim yourself. After all, you are your best company.
Here, relationship experts share a new take on what it means to really 'win a breakup.'
You make your home entirely yours.
Nothing says independence like being able to live on your own. 'It offers an opportunity for a fresh start,' Mindy DeSeta, Ph.D., relationship and sex expert for the Hily dating app, told HuffPost. 'Having your own space provides a sense of freedom, the ability to establish your own routine and the power to make decisions without needing anyone's approval.'
Meaning, you can decorate your space any way you want it without someone ruining your aesthetic with sports memorabilia. Or you can display your memorabilia and treasures without judgment.
Plus, 'there's always opportunities to create new connections,' DeSeta adds. You can make your space a place to host dinner parties, book clubs and other events. This can remind you that you have a solid group of people who have your back or open the opportunity for new friends and more community-building.
You don't feel the urge to check their social media.
It's so tempting to keep online tabs on your ex, but stalking their every move, whether through their social media or friends, is only going to prolong the healing process.
'Letting go of the constant monitoring means you've detached from the need for comparison or validation,' Hathorn said. 'You've stopped measuring your healing against their performance of happiness or whoever they're currently hanging out with.' So hit that mute button (or, better yet, hit unfollow) for the sake of your peace of mind.
You focus on your work and career.
A lot of people dive deep into their career post-breakup, and for good reason.
'Growing a business or earning a job promotion is a major breakup win,' DeSeta said. 'Not only will you be bringing in more income, but focusing on your career success also redirects your attention away from heartbreak while providing a genuine sense of accomplishment and validation.'
The best part is that you can use that extra money to do whatever pleases you, whether it's booking a luxury trip or saving up for a big-ticket item from your wishlist.
You can see your relationship for what it was: the good, bad and in-between.
It's hard to notice any flaws in your relationship when you're in it, making you wonder what actually went wrong that led to a breakup. But with distance comes reflection.
'Maybe you're able to see now that you both had flaws, or that it just wasn't meant to work,' Hathorn suggested. For example, maybe you realize your partner wasn't as supportive with your career as you'd like them to be or you both clashed on certain political beliefs.
'We often ignore what's right in front of us,' Rene Mondy, therapist and post-marriage expert, told HuffPost.'Sit with a journal and ask: What did I overlook, justify or downplay in this connection?'
Fully processing the breakup allows you to figure out what matters most to you in a relationship, so you can seek out someone who is a better match.
You're investing time in things you love.
Raise your hand if you ever stopped doing something you enjoyed because you were too busy in your relationship. (*Raises hand*)
It's happened to the best of us. Relationships, especially bad ones, can turn your focus away from the things that excite and inspire you. 'Sometimes we sideline our own hobbies for a relationship,' Hathorn said.
She and DeSeta suggest redirecting your attention and energy back to yourself by investing in what matters most to you. Maybe it's seeing a therapist weekly to help you process your emotions or devoting more time to the gym. Maybe it's finally booking that solo trip to Portugal you've been wanting to do or just spending more time with friends and family.
Getting back to your favorite hobbies will remind you of what you value most in life — something you can always take with you into your next phase in life, whatever that may be.
You look at the future with a sense of possibility.
After taking time to reconnect with yourself and having distance from your previous relationship, you'll have a better sense of what comes next, Hathorn adds.
Whether you want to stay single for a while or you decide to dive into dating, you'll approach your next chapter with a stronger sense of self, higher standards and a life that's authentically yours.
And, according to Hathorn, 'This is the real victory.'

Frances Tiafoe On Energizing His Way Through Long Matches And Business Relationships
Frances Tiafoe makes it through matches one nibble at a time. As the American tennis star continues his run with Clif Bar, he's partnered with the brand on a new Caffeinated Collection that features a line of products bearing his face on the package. But the Tiafoe-Clif connection is about more than his smile. 'I was heavily involved in it,' he tells me about the development of the line. 'They had an idea and direction they wanted to go, and I was excited about it.' He was excited because he uses the product every day. 'I'm a pretty energized and outgoing guy,' he says. 'I give so much energy when I am playing and with long matches, especially in the majors, I nibble on bars on every changeover when I'm playing. It is helping me to keep my energy up and lasting through the match. I'm not a big caffeine guy [off the court], but this has been the right thing for me.' He uses the new caffeinated bars 'super strategically,' opting for a spike near the end of matches to keep his energy levels going strong. Tiafoe, who says he's enjoyed the white chocolate macadamia nut and crunchy peanut butter bars in the past, has his face on the new vanilla almond caffeinated variety, something that he started taste-testing in December. 'I bit into a lot,' he says about the process. 'I tasted a lot. I want to like it. I am going to be nibbling at it, no telling how much, I am going to be biting into it a bunch of times. I definitely need to like it. Hopefully the world likes it, but more importantly I need to like it.' Throughout the process, Tiafoe was along for testing the caffeine usage and levels, the flavor profiles and even the bar's packaging. The new collection features Tiafoe supporting vanilla almond and WNBA star Breanna Stewart backing the caramel chocolate chip flavor. Each bar contains 10 grams of plant-based protein and about 65 milligrams of organic caffeine, the equivalent of one espresso shot. He says he's honored any brand would want so much of his input and wants to focus his business-geared time on creating deeper relationships with brands instead of having transactional relationships. 'I am really blessed, highly favored,' he says. 'I really believe in that. They could have chosen anyone, but they chose me. I appreciate it and don't take anything for granted.' Tiafoe approaches business relationships like he approaches life, believing that putting out good energy means he will get that in return. By building relationships—and not being transactional—with a brand breeds longevity. 'I don't want to do something for a short stint,' he says, 'I want to do it for a real long time. I am glad everybody on the team wants to be part of my journey and see how far I go. That builds me as an individual.' MORE: Frances Tiafoe Switches To Lululemon Tennis Apparel The process becomes easier as relationships form, and you work with great people. 'Everyone on Clif Bar, from the bottom all the way to the top, is amazing,' he says. 'They are asking my opinions. It is an easy dialogue. Everyone wants to see me win and it helps when we are trying to go in one direction.' That's what drives Tiafoe in business. 'Every partner I have, I have great relationships with,' he says. 'It's not a numbers thing. It is does it fit with who I am and what I believe in and what I want to do? I gotta keep tennis the main thing but if it makes sense for me and them, let's make it rock, and let's do it for a long time. There are only so many hours in the day, so I just try to be me and ultimately that takes you a long way.' Tiafoe says focusing on trying to be a 'great individual every day' while doing his best on the court to make the investment worth it for a brand has been his aim. 'People see the authenticity you have, and I am lucky to have people around me who want to be part of that,' he says, adding that folks can see when you're trying to be someone you're not. 'It is truly humbling. It could be anyone, but I'm glad they chose me. It has been awesome. I can't complain.' Mixing the Clif Bar into his on-court routine is part of maturing, Tiafoe says. Early in his career he wouldn't eat anything and would drink any random sports drink put in front of him. 'It didn't matter,' he remembers thinking at the time, 'I didn't think it was a big deal.' Then his coach encouraged him to eat while on the court, especially as he started playing longer matches. Now, at age 27, he admits he can't just walk up and play without planning. He needs to be more regimented in his nutrition, locking in daily routines to maintain his fitness. 'Clif Bar is really helping me, and it has been great,' Tiafoe says. 'It made a big difference in my play and not having dips and being one of the fitter guys.' As Tiafoe nibbles away on bars during matches, it's all part of a maturing nutritional stance. The face on the package? That's part of a relationship.

An Ennismore IPO: Can Lifestyle Hotels Impress Wall Street?
If Accor follows through with an Ennismore IPO, it would be a referendum on whether investors will pay up for Instagram moments and craft cocktails over the more familiar returns of big box chain hotels. Wall Street has long valued scale and cost efficiency above all else. But a successful IPO of the lifestyle operator could elevate design, brand heat, and food-and-beverage revenue as credible sources of long-term value. If it stumbles, an Ennismore IPO would reinforce the prevailing view: that lifestyle belongs inside big hotel group systems, not as a standalone business on the public markets. Ennismore, with 180 operating hotels and brands like The Hoxton, Mama Shelter, and SLS, would be the first lifestyle hotel company to go public with this level of scale and ambition. Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt all operate lifestyle sub-brands, but no pure-play lifestyle operator has achieved signific

Top 100 Channels on Live TV Streaming Services: A Look at YouTube TV, Hulu Live and More
Want to switch from being a cable customer to a cord-cutter? It doesn't need to be a stressful process, but a little research is needed. As TV costs increase, there are plenty of alternatives you can consider, like live TV streaming services or skinny bundles. Cord-free live services come with perks like a broad mix of channels, DVR and no long-term commitments. You can stream sports and more, and these services offer wider channel options than antennas but also let you watch on your laptop or phone. Choosing a service can be tricky because of pricing and regional sports networks, but there are six main platforms to consider (we're not including smaller ones): Sling TV, DirecTV, YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, Fubo and Philo. It really boils down to the channels, right? We've looked at who carries the top 100 channels in their main lineups to help you decide which one could be the best for your household. Read more: Best Sports Streaming Service for 2025 The Big Chart: Top 100 channels compared (updated Aug. 2025) The main difference between the services is their channel selection. All of them offer different lineups of channels for various prices. Below, you'll find a chart that shows the top 100 channels across all six services. Note that not every service has a worthy 100. There are actually seven listed because Sling TV has two "base" tiers, Orange and Blue. And if you're wondering, I chose which "top" channels made the cut. Sorry, AXS TV, Discovery Life, GSN and Universal HD. DirecTV offers signature cord-free packages and its basic plan starts at $90 a month with fees and no promotional rates. YouTube TV, Sling, Fubo and Hulu Plus Live TV's plans all cost more now, affecting the value of these services based on their channel lineups. Don't forget Fubo's big loss of Warner Bros. Discovery channels such as Animal Planet, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, Magnolia Network OWN and TLC, which may make it less appealing. However, there are numerous live TV streaming choices available. Sling TV's basic monthly packages are $46 in most cities and Philo offers a small roster but packages AMC Plus access with it. But costs continue to go up and those changes are reflected in the chart below where applicable. Some more stuff to know about the chart: Yes = The channel is available on the cheapest pricing tier. That price is listed next to the service's name. = The channel is available on the cheapest pricing tier. That price is listed next to the service's name. No = The channel isn't available at all on that service. = The channel isn't available at all on that service. $ = The channel is available for an extra fee, either a la carte or as part of a more expensive package or add-on. = The channel is available for an extra fee, either a la carte or as part of a more expensive package or add-on. Regional sports networks -- local channels devoted to showing regular-season games of particular pro baseball, basketball and hockey teams -- are not listed. DirecTV's $130 tier MySports package for $70 and Xfinity's sports and news offering. MySports package for $70 and Xfinity's sports and news offering. Local ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, MyNetworkTV and The CW networks are not available in every city. Because the availability of these channels varies, you'll want to check the service's website to verify that it carries your local network. Local PBS stations are only currently available on DirecTV, Hulu Live and YouTube TV. Again, you'll want to check local availability. Sling Blue subscribers Sling's site to see which local channels are available in your area. Sling's site to see which local channels are available in your area. Fubo subscribers may find that the ACC Network and SEC Network are included with their package at no extra cost. Check availability for your state. It offers a 4K upgrade add-on for an additional price, but the downside is there isn't much to watch at present unless you watch select channels. If you don't mind paying a bit more than the Sling TVs of the world, or want to watch live NBA games, YouTube TV offers a high standard of live TV streaming. Read our YouTube TV review. See at YouTube TV Sarah Tew/CNET Sling TV If you want to save a little money and don't mind missing out on local channels, Sling TV is the best of the budget services. Its Orange and Blue packages start at $46 per month, and you can combine them for a monthly rate of $61 ($66 in some regions). The Orange option nets you one stream, while Blue gives you three. It's not as comprehensive or as easy to navigate as YouTube, but with a bit of work, including adding an antenna or an AirTV 2 DVR, it's an unbeatable value. We'll also add that the service offers local channels such as ABC and CBS in some regions where the monthly rate is $51. Read our Sling TV review. See at Sling TV Sarah Tew/CNET DirecTV DirecTV's base signature streaming package costs more than all the other platforms on this list and its stiffest competition is still Hulu Plus Live TV and YouTube TV. With its channel selection, it's ideal for sports fans who want to watch local or national games. The service does have its pluses, though -- for example, it includes the flipper-friendly ability to swipe left and right to change channels. Additionally, it includes some channels that some other services can't, including nearly 250 PBS stations nationwide. The $90 Entertainment with sports package may suit your needs with its 75-plus channels. But for cord-cutters who want to follow their local NBA or MLB team, DirecTV's pricier Choice package is a more robust live TV streaming pick because it has access to more regional sports networks than the competition. Nonetheless, you'll want to make sure your channel is included here and not available on one of our preferred picks before you pony up. Read our DirecTV streaming service review. See at Directv Ty Pendlebury/CNET Fubo There's a lot to like about Fubo -- it offers a wide selection of channels and its sports focus makes it especially attractive to soccer fans or NBA, NHL and MLB fans who live in an area served by one of Fubo's RSNs. It's also a great choice for NFL fans because it's one of three services, alongside YouTube TV and Hulu, that offer NFL Network and optional RedZone. As of February 2025, Fubo is charging more for its service and access to Bally Sports RSNs. The biggest hole in Fubo's lineup is the lack of Warner Bros. Discovery networks, including Cartoon Network, CNN, Food Network, HGTV, TBS and TNT -- especially as the latter two carry a lot of sports content, in particular MLB, NBA and NHL. Those missing channels, and the $85 price tag for the base plan, make it less attractive than YouTube TV for most viewers. Read our Fubo review. See at Fubo
