SEC Powerhouse Trending Towards Nation's No. 1 Transfer Portal Target

Yahoo02-05-2025

The LSU Tigers had a solid 2024 season, putting together a 9-5 record overall, while going 5-3 in SEC matchups and eventually defeating the Baylor Bears 44-31 in the Texas Bowl.
Now, throughout the offseason, they're a team, led by head coach Brian Kelly, that has been extremely active in the transfer portal, bringing in a total of 17 players for a class that ranks No. 3 in the nation, per On3.

There's a chance they could soon be making another big addition, as Pete Nakos of On3 reports that they're one team trending towards landing a commitment from former Houston Cougars safety A.J. Haulcy.
"Miami rolled out the red carpet for Houston safety A.J. Haulcy earlier this week.... But the team that has picked up the most momentum in the last 24 hours is LSU," Nakos wrote. "The opportunity to play in the SEC is making the Tigers a tough team to beat. His agents continue to be in contact with the LSU staff, too."

Of course, this would be huge for LSU and Kelly, as On3 Industry Rankings places Haulcy as a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player still available within the transfer portal, with one more year of eligibility.

He's also coming off an impressive season for Houston, where he appeared in 12 games, accumulating 74 tackles, five interceptions (tied for third-most in FBS) and seven pass deflections.
If Haulcy does end up with LSU, then he'd join a long list of defensive threats they've added through the portal, including four-star safety Tamarcus Coley (NC State), four-star EDGE Patrick Payton (Florida State) and three-star EDGE Jack Pyburn (Florida).
