Yogi calls Sambhal a sacred symbol of Hindu faith, vows to restore its heritage
Yogi Adityanath
on Thursday declared Sambhal "a sacred symbol of Hindu faith".
The CM said violence unleashed by foreign invaders was suppressed in history books and accused the invaders of desecrating and destroying Sambhal's Sanatan history — the city is believed to be the birthplace of Kalki, the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Yogi warned that any malicious attempts to undermine Sanatan Dharma would be firmly crushed and told people to never forgive Congress and SP for having sinned against Sambhal.
The CM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 222 development projects worth Rs 659 crore in Sambhal. He claimed that the town once boasted 68 pilgrimage sites, 19 sacred wells, and traditional 24- and 84-kos parikrama routes, all of which were destroyed by invaders. The holy sites were taken over, and a deliberate attempt was made to erase the truth, he said.
Referring to this as a "malicious conspiracy," Yogi vowed that all 68 shrines and 19 wells would be restored.
"Just like Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar revived Kashi Vishwanath and Somnath temples, we will initiate a similar renaissance for Sambhal's heritage. True development lies in preserving legacy while shaping the golden dreams of today and tomorrow," he said. The projects launched on Thursday, he said, covered education, vocational training, drinking water, roads, Anganwadi centres, and infrastructure for composite schools.
Yogi highlighted Sambhal's spiritual significance, calling it the sacred land of both Vishnu and Shiva, which found mention in scriptures like the Shrimad Bhagavat, Skanda, and Vishnu Puranas as the birthplace of Lord Kalki in Kaliyug. Attacking those who label Hindu traditions as controversial, the CM said that it was their own background that was controversial, and therefore they viewed heritage with the same lens.
He threatened that any attempt to undermine Sanatan Dharma would be "firmly crushed" and those who desecrate Sanatan Dharma's holy sites would "pay the price."
He announced that if Varanasi and Ayodhya could be revived, Sambhal too would be restored to its original form, and his govt would rejuvenate Lord Kalki's shrine and Harihar Dham. "Congress orchestrated mass killings here, and SP, as its disciple, shielded the murderers.
Never forget their sins against Sambhal. They hid the truth of post-independence massacres out of fear of losing their vote bank. We are not here for vote bank politics; we are here to preserve our heritage.
Those who shame India and its values will be taught a lesson their future generations won't forget," the CM said.
Highlighting his govt's achievements over the past eight years, the CM said that 8.5 lakh jobs were provided, including the recent police recruitment of 60,200 persons.
He hit out against previous govts, accusing them of nurturing one mafia per district, whereas his govt was promoting the 'One District, One Product' scheme and implementing welfare initiatives such as housing for the poor, free ration, grants for weddings, and health services.
During the day, the CM also inspected archaeological artefacts unearthed in Sambhal and planted saplings to promote environmental awareness. He also launched the 'Sambhal Samvad' app and distributed cheques, house keys, and certificates to beneficiaries of various govt schemes.
Mentioning the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the CM asked people to respond to PM Narendra Modi's call and hoist the national flag.

Congress and allies gained in most of the Maharashtra seats where votes went up: BJP
The BJP on Friday (August 8, 2025) said the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, damaged his own credibility while alleging large-scale electoral manipulation in Maharashtra in 2024. At a press conference, Union Minister and BJP leader Bhupender Yadav said, 'Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi was talking about dropping an 'atom bomb'. Yesterday, a friend told me that he was actually cutting the tree on which he was sitting with an axe.' Responding to Mr. Gandhi's allegations, Mr. Yadav said that in the Maharashtra 2024 Assembly election, the Congress and allies had, in fact, won most of the seats where the votes had increased. 'Threatening language' He said the 'arrogance' in Mr. Gandhi's language, threatening the Election Commission of India (ECI) with consequences if the Congress comes to power, did not befit the Opposition leader. He accused the Congress leader and his party of attacking the Army and the constitutional institutions. 'The Congress leaders do not even miss an opportunity to speak against the comments made by the Supreme Court. In this country, the Army, the ECI, Parliament, and all the other constitutional institutions work autonomously and independently... it is the duty of a person who abides by the Constitution not to use arrogant and threatening language against these institutions,' he said. Referring to the Congress leader's press conference on Thursday (August 7, 2025), the BJP leader said Mr. Gandhi's main point was the increase of one crore votes in the Maharashtra Assembly election. 'The details are on the ECI website. In 2024, about 40 lakh votes increased between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, but Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was an increase of one crore votes, so there is an error margin of 60%,' he said. 'In Maharashtra, they [the Congress and allies] won most of the seats where the votes had increased. In Mumbra-Kalwa Assembly constituency number 149, where voters went up by 41,663, NCP-Shiv Sena's Jitendra Ahwad won the seat by 96,228 votes,' he said, citing several other instances wherein the Opposition candidates won by large margins. Stating that the addition or deletion of votes is an independent exercise of the ECI, Mr. Yadav said Mr. Gandhi should file an affidavit on oath before the ECI with respect to his accusations. 'However, he has not done so. His modus operandi has been to 'shoot and scoot, ' said Mr. Yadav, alleging that the Opposition disrupted parliamentary proceedings to evade discussion on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Mahadevapura has seen allegations over electoral roll manipulation earlier too
As a political storm is brewing over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'vote theft' allegations in the Mahadevapura constituency of Bengaluru, many in the area who have in the past raised concerns about electoral rolls are now demanding a thorough investigation by the Election Commission of India (ECI). However, they also caution against 'politicisation' of the issue, which they fear will only muddy waters and lead to no tangible outcomes. Activists had raised issues related to electoral roll discrepancies in this Assembly constituency ahead of 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections in the State as well, with allegations of both voter suppression and voter deletion. Jagadish Reddy, associated with the Indian National Congress and with local RWA Varthur Rising, said they were the first to flag the issue with the Congress two years ago, leading to a systematic investigation. 'On the ground level, we saw a lot of anti-incumbency, but representatives of the same party continued to win with increased margins. When we pulled out the voters' list from some of the booths in Varthur and Whitefield, we noticed there were anywhere between 50 to 100 additions and deletions. When we went to check on some of the addresses that were in the list, we could not find anyone living there,' he said. Million Voters' Rising Back in 2017-18, the residents of Whitefield had begun a campaign called Million Voters' Rising to get the residents on the electoral roll. However, it was noticed that between 2012 and 2018, around 66%, an abnormally high number, of applications were rejected. Then Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjiv Kumar had ordered a re-scrutiny of all the rejected applications. The residents had even approached the Karnataka High Court. Things did not change much for these voters even after that as in the months leading up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, more than 3,000 of them again faced difficulties getting on the electoral rolls. Volunteers of the campaign had alleged that there were some 'deliberate efforts' to disenfranchise some voters. 'The voters' list of the constituency has always appeared bloated as the turnout would always be relatively lower when compared to the registration data. Now that the question is raised again, and there is some proof that indicates manipulation could have happened, the ECI should get to the bottom of the issue. The sanctity of the electoral roll is very important to democracy,' said Ajit S. of Million Voters' Rising. Chilume controversy In 2022, a big controversy broke out when Chilume Educational Cultural and Rural Development Trust, an NGO which was tasked with carrying out the SVEEP campaign, was accused of collecting electors' data and parallelly running a political consultancy firm, selling the same to politicians and having links to BJP politicians. Chilume was active in three city constituencies of Mahadevapura, Shivaji Nagar and Chickpet. The Congress, then in the Opposition, had alleged that the then ruling BJP had pushed for several targeted deletions from the electoral rolls, misusing this data. However, an investigation by the government found no manipulation of electoral data, but admitted that illegally collected voter data was stored in foreign servers. The BBMP cut off all ties with the NGO. 'Need more transparency' Electoral rolls analyst P. G. Bhat, who has been consistently arguing that Bengaluru's electoral roll has been bloated and inaccurate for the last decade and a half, said that Mr. Gandhi was right in criticising the electoral roll for its poor state, but he needs to put out more information as to how he arrived at the conclusions he has drawn. 'For instance, he says there are 11,965 duplicate voters. There are multiple levels of duplication and he has not said how exactly he arrived at this number,' he said, adding that Mr. Gandhi 'should not politicise this issue as the focus gets lost and nothing comes out of it when that happens.'
