'The previous governments repeatedly deceived Delhi, and due to petty politics, prevented the benefits of central government schemes and support from reaching people. Schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Swachh Bharat Mission never reached the citizens of Delhi. Previous governments, driven by narrow self-interest, turned their back on the people and deliberately stalled development. However, PM Shri Modi Ji never turned his back on Delhi, never discriminated, nor bowed to pressure,' CM Gupta said.
In response, the AAP leaders have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing government machinery by forcing sanitation workers and teachers to attend PM Modi's rally under the pretext of official duty. 'On Sunday morning, our poor Dalit sanitation workers in Delhi were called in the name of duty. Now they are being packed into buses and taken to PM Modi's rally. This is the real face of the BJP,' former Delhi chief minister and AAP leader Atishi said in a post on X.
The CM said that under the leadership of PM Modi, Delhi has received support in the form of various schemes over the last decade. 'These schemes and this assistance were never fully implemented by the previous government, but even so, the Centre's contribution continues to play a historic role in strengthening Delhi's infrastructure,' she said.
'The inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II will give new wings to Delhi's speed. Who would have thought that the journey from Singhu Border to the airport could be completed in just 40 minutes? Who would have imagined that the dreaded traffic jams of Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-8 could be overcome so smoothly?,' she added.
Slamming the BJP for 'cheap politics', Atishi said, 'BJP is openly insulting Dalit sanitation workers. Forcing them under the guise of work and sending them to rallies is illegal and inhuman. MCD commissioner Ashwini Kumar should also face action. BJP has deceived the people of Delhi as well.'

'The ECI and other bodies are working as partners of the ruling BJP. We are also examining the list of voters in Haryana and evidence of vote theft will be brought before the public soon. The SIR's objective is to take away the voting rights of the poor, but the BJP's theft has been exposed,' Hooda added.

Sanitation workers, govt school teachers forced to attend PM's event, claims AAP
A fresh political row broke out on Sunday as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that the BJP government in Delhi forced government school teachers, sanitation workers and other civic employees to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event in Rohini where he inaugurated two national highways. While the AAP called the move an 'insult to the teaching profession' and 'coercion of government staff', the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) rejected the claims, saying that no such orders were issued. AAP Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that MCD teachers, malaria department staff, licencing officials and sanitation workers were compelled to attend the event. 'On a holiday when people were supposed to rest or perform puja for Janmashtami, Deputy Commissioners sat in their respective offices across all zones and issued orders to employees of different departments, mobilising them for PM Modi's rally.' Several AAP leaders and MCD councillors said that they reached some pick-up spots early in the morning and found that staff of various departments were being mobilised in buses. They shared videos, which, according to them, showed sanitation workers being taken to the venue. In one such note related to the event, the Deputy Commissioner of the Education department of the Central Zone directed that MCD school teachers must report at the pick up spots by 7 am, from where buses would leave at 7:30 am for the Prime Minister's events. It was further stated that all teachers must attend the rally. Workers of the anti-malaria department also claimed that detailed instructions were issued to their supervisors to monitor attendance at the PM's event. According to them, circle in-charges were told to send a photo of the number plate of the buses they board in the morning, take another photograph after sitting inside the bus, and a third on reaching the programme venue. They added that staff were warned against disobeying senior officers' orders or creating any disturbance. Commenting on the alleged directions, Leader of Opposition, Atishi said, 'It is wrong to be threatened and dragged to the rally in the name of duty…Sanitation workers' duty is to keep the city clean, not to turn into crowds; By forcing them, BJP is indulging in petty politics.' Responding to the Opposition's remarks, MCD Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said, 'These are unnecessary claims, MCD employees are also citizens of Delhi, they went there because they wanted to listen to their PM…after falling out of power, the AAP is jobless so they are unnecessarily making an issue out of everything.' Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia claimed that government school teachers were instructed to gather and clap during the Prime Minister's event. 'PM Modi inaugurated road projects in Delhi on Sunday. It is a good thing. But what is shocking and shameful is that the BJP's Delhi government issued government orders forcing all teachers to attend the ribbon-cutting event just to clap,' Sisodia said. He added: 'The BJP is unable to find people who will willingly attend their programmes. Since no one is ready to come, they issued a diktat that every principal and teacher of Delhi's government schools must be present, so that when the Prime Minister cuts the ribbon, there will be applause. This is deeply shameful.' Arguing that the move went against the respect traditionally accorded to teachers, Sisodia said, 'Our country has always said, 'Guru Govind dou khade, kake lagoon paay. Balihari Guru aapne, Govind diyo bataye.' But today the situation has been turned upside down. PM Modi and the Guru both are present — PM Modi cuts the ribbon and gives a speech from the stage, while the Guru stands below and claps. Is this the responsibility of teachers? Is it not an insult to the teaching profession when the government issues orders saying that when the Prime Minister inaugurates a road, every teacher must stand there and clap? The BJP must apologise to Delhi's teachers for this insult.' 'Just a few months ago, when Arvind Kejriwal's AAP government was in power in Delhi, orders were issued to send principals to IIMs, to Finland, to Singapore, and teachers to Cambridge for training. That was the atmosphere in Delhi. But now the scene is that the Prime Minister is cutting the ribbon of a road, and all the teachers are standing there to clap,' he added. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also addressed the media and claimed that the mobilisation of government employees showed a lack of public enthusiasm for the BJP. 'Such a situation has been created that no one is willing to listen to Narendra Modi. That is why they are summoning sanitation workers and teachers to fill their rallies. They may create fake crowds through such artificial means, but this will bring them no benefit.'

Chinese FM Wang Yi lands in India today for key talks with Modi, Jaishankar, Doval amid Trump tariffs. What's on agenda?
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will begin his two-day visit to India today, 18 August. India and China are expected to discuss new confidence-building measures for durable peace and tranquillity along their contested border during Wang Yi's visit, which comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's China trip later this month. Wang's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the two neighbours to rebuild their relationship after it came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. Howeber, the trip also assumes significance in view of increasing tensions in India-US relations following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent, which included an additional penalty of 25 per cent for purchasing Russian oil. The Chinese foreign minister will be in India primarily to hold a fresh round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary question with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Wang and Doval are the designated special representatives for the boundary talks. Wang Yi will land in New Delhi at around 4:15 PM on Monday. At 6 PM, he will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for bilateral discussions. On Tuesday morning, Wang Yi is scheduled to hold a new round of the Special Representatives (SR) dialogue with NSA Ajit Doval at 11 AM. The meetings could see both sides deliberate on a range of key issues, including the border situation, trade and resumption of flight services. The Chinese minister will then call on Prime Minister Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, at 5:30 PM, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The meeting assumes significance as it is taking place days before Modi's planned trip to China to attend the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The Chinese foreign minister's visit is largely seen as part of ongoing efforts by the two neighbours to rebuild their relationship, which came under severe strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020. Though the two sides disengaged troops from the friction points, they are yet to de-escalate the situation by pulling back the frontline forces from the border. Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the eastern Ladakh region. The two sides will also use the opportunity to lay the ground for Prime Minister Modi's visit to China to attend the annual summit of the SCO to be held on 31 August and 1 September, news agency PTI said. As per the plan, the prime minister will visit Japan around 29 August and then travel to the northern Chinese city of Tianjin for the SCO summit. Modi's visit to China is being planned amid efforts by the two sides to repair their bilateral ties, which came under severe strain following the deadly clashes between Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan Valley in June 2020. NSA Doval travelled to China in December last and held the SR talks with Wang, weeks after Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping decided to revive various dialogue mechanisms between the two sides at a meeting in the Russian city of Kazan. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the clashes at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in bilateral ties. The decision to revive various dialogue mechanisms was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi in Kazan on 23 October 2024. The two sides also initiated several initiatives to rebuild ties, including the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and New Delhi restarting the issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals. Both sides are also discussing modalities to resume direct flight services between the two countries. The flight services between the two sides were suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It was not restored in view of the border row. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar visited China in the last two months to attend the SCO meetings. The two sides are expected to discuss new confidence-building measures for durable peace and tranquillity along their contested border. China is the current chair of the SCO.
