Delhi to get ₹24k-cr road projects with Centre's aid: CM Gupta
Detailed reports of each of the projects have been prepared and the work is likely to begin soon, she said.
The announcement came after a high-level meeting chaired by Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari. Lieutenant governor V K Saxena, Union minister of state Harsh Malhotra, Delhi cabinet ministers, members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Manoj Tiwari, and senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
The CM said that the aforementioned projects 'will be crucial in easing the traffic between Delhi and Haryana.' 'Projects worth nearly ₹35,000 crore are currently being implemented in Delhi, and projects worth ₹64,000 crore have already been completed. In the coming times, ₹24,000 crore worth of projects for which detailed project reports have been made will be implemented to decongest Delhi and make traffic movement smooth…I want to thank (PM) Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari for helping decongest Delhi and make it a pollution-free city,' said Gupta.
The upcoming projects include the construction of an approximately 7km-long underground tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road; an elevated road from INA to the airport — which will later connect to Faridabad and Gurugram; a highway connecting Delhi to Katra and Amritsar, which will be linked to the Urban Extension Road (UER)-II; and a second extension of UER-II, which will connect Alipur to Tronica City and the Delhi–Dehradun route.
These new routes will enable seamless travel between Haryana, Dehradun, and Noida without the need to enter Delhi, officials said.
'A feasibility study is also underway for a tunnel from Sarai Kale Khan to IGI Airport,' CM Gupta said, adding that several key initiatives are being undertaken to decongest Delhi.
The CM also gave details on the completed and ongoing projects. The National Highways Authority of India is currently implementing projects in Delhi worth ₹35,000 crore, while projects worth ₹64,000 crore have already been completed, she said..
According to a government report, the major completed road projects include the 135km Eastern Peripheral Expressway ( ₹12,000 crore), Dhaula Kuan–Gurugram corridor ( ₹373 crore), Gurugram–Sohna Road ( ₹2,009 crore), Delhi–Panipat corridor ( ₹2,205 crore), and the 32km Delhi–Dehradun Expressway stretch from Akshardham to EPE junction ( ₹3,500 crore).
Several other flagship projects are nearing completion, such as the Delhi–Meerut Expressway (92% work done), Dwarka Expressway (98%), UER-II (95%), and the DND Interchange–Kalindi Kunj–Faridabad–Sohna–Jewar Airport Link Road (93%).
Major roads such as Rohtak Road, Punjabi Bagh to Nangloi, Ashram to Badarpur, and MG Road have also been handed over to NHAI, not only for decongestion works but also for the development of proper drainage systems, side lanes, and necessary infrastructure.
'Earlier, such tasks were handled by multiple agencies, leading to issues such waterlogging and unconnected drainage. Now, these problems will be resolved solely by NHAI at its own expense, with support from the Delhi Public Works Department,' said CM Gupta.
NHAI has also sanctioned ₹150 crore for construction of RUBs (Road Under Bridges) and ROBs (Road Over Bridges) to eliminate bottlenecks caused by railway crossings.
'A total of ₹1.25 lakh crore worth projects for decongestion projects have been initiated in Delhi by the central government. I want to thank the Centre for supporting Delhi,' said CM Gupta.
She further said that all future road projects would maximise the use of inert construction material. This initiative will not only reduce burden on landfill sites but also re-purpose the waste into valuable construction resources, she said.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for the construction of the Urban Extension Road (UER) II, saying it will contribute to the "Viksit Delhi" vision. Accompanied by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and local MP Yogender Chandolia, Gupta inspected the venue for the inauguration of the UER-II at Rohini Sector 37, from where the road will be inaugurated by the prime minister on Sunday. Describing the project as a "historic gift" for the city, the chief minister said the inauguration of the UER-II will not only move Delhi closer to becoming a traffic-free capital but also strengthen connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR). "The UER-II is not just an infrastructure project, it is an investment in the future of Delhi. It will improve the traffic flow, cut travel time drastically and uplift the quality of life for lakhs of people living in Delhi and NCR," she said. The corridor will start at National Highway-44 (Alipur), traverse through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and terminate at National Highway-48, near Mahipalpur. Highlighting its utility, Gupta said one of the most significant advantages of the road is the reduction in travel time from the Singhu border to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. It will now take just 40 minutes to cover the distance, compared to almost two hours earlier. "The pressure on Inner and Outer Ring Roads will be substantially reduced, while major junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-9 will no longer face heavy congestion. This will be a huge relief for lakhs of daily commuters," she noted. The UER-II will also act as a critical link connecting major highways, including NH-44 (Alipur), NH-9 (Bahadurgarh) and NH-48 (Mahipalpur). This improved connectivity will also expand industrial and logistics opportunities, the chief minister was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Delhi government. The project will connect the industrial hubs of Sonipat and Bahadurgarh through dedicated link roads, giving a direct boost to industry and facilitating faster movement of goods. Gupta said this will not only accelerate economic activities in Delhi-NCR, but also strengthen the region's role as a hub of trade and commerce. "With smoother traffic flow and shorter travel time, fuel consumption will decrease significantly, contributing to lower emissions. The UER-II will directly aid in reducing air-pollution levels and improving the overall environment of the capital," she underlined. The route will also integrate with the Delhi-Jaipur national highway, the KMP Expressway, the Gurugram-Rewari highway and the Gurugram-Sohna highway. Notably, the Gurugram-Sohna stretch is directly linked to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the statement said. With this network, the UER-II will emerge as a backbone of high-speed connectivity, linking Delhi not just with the NCR but with the entire country, Gupta said. Travelling to Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jaipur and even Mumbai will become much faster and more convenient. It is truly a "transformative" project for the people of Delhi and beyond, the chief minister said.

Lakhs gather at Nemra for Shibu Soren's Sanskar Bhoj; leaders across India pay tribute to Dishom Guru
RANCHI: Tributes poured in for 'Dishom Guru' Shibu Soren on his Sanskar Bhoj at his native place in Nemra on Saturday. From senior political figures and government officials to social representatives and local villagers, a vast gathering assembled to honour the memory of the revered leader, popularly known as 'Dishom Guru.' Dignitaries from all over the country participated in the Sanskar Bhoj. Apart from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Baba Ramdev, Pappu Yadav and several others visited Nemra. Governor Santosh Gangwar also offered floral tributes at Soren's portrait and joined the Sanskar Bhoj. He later met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and family members to express his condolences. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recalled that Shibu Soren's simplicity and personality had always impressed him. 'I had several meetings with Dishom Guru, Shibu Soren. His spontaneity, simplicity and personality always impressed me. Guruji was known not only as the guardian of tribals but also of other communities. I offer my humble tribute to him,' said Rajnath Singh after paying homage. Given the massive turnout, extensive arrangements were made for more than one lakh people visiting Nemra. Huge cutouts of late Shibu Soren were installed on both sides of the road. Around 4,000 street lights and over 200 generators were arranged to deal with any power failure. Five big pandals were raised at different places for the Sanskar Bhoj, each carrying Soren's picture where people paid their respects. More than 300 e-rickshaws operated between designated parking zones and the event venue. Resting areas and dedicated footpaths were set up for visitors' convenience.
