Patrick Mahomes sends ominous warning to the NFL from inside Kansas City Chiefs training camp

Daily Mail07-08-2025
has issued an ominous warning to the NFL as the Chiefs look to avenge their deflating Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
The two-time MVP was uncharacteristically rattled in the 40-22 loss as he committed three turnovers and took six sacks from Philly's defense.
But with training camp in full swing, Mahomes is aiming to play at a higher level next season.
'There's stuff we've got to get better at. Especially myself,' he told USA TODAY Sports.
'There's plays on the football field that I didn't make last year, that I've made in previous years. At the end of the day, I'm going to do whatever it takes to win, whether that's passing for a lot of yards, not passing for a lot of yards. But I think if I play better, that's going to make it better for the team.
'So, I've got to be better at executing whenever the shots are there, making those throws. Because that's going to alleviate pressure on our defense and make them play more free and make the team play more free.'
The quarterback played below his usual best in 2024, as he failed to top 4,000 yards for the first time since he's been a starter and tossed only 26 touchdowns - his lowest mark since 2019.
He and the offense were also not helped by long-term injuries to Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown, the latter of which missed nearly the entire regular season before suiting up in the playoffs. Rice suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4.
Starting running back Isiah Pacheco also played just seven games in the regular season due to a fractured fibula.
The Chiefs are now about six months removed from their failed three-peat attempt, but Mahomes can still remember the awful feeling from after the game.
'When you make it that far and then you're at the end, it just hurts,' he said.
'You put so much hard work into it. So, losing on that final step is always hard. But it's how you respond. I thought we responded well after that last Super Bowl loss, just kind of building back and getting even better and winning a couple more championships.'
Both Rice and Brown have been absent from practice this week due to groin and ankle issues respectively, though Mahomes will look to continue fostering his connection with Xavier Worthy, who produced an eye-catching 157 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Eagles.
Mahomes will of course have a favorite target in Travis Kelce back as well, after the tight end decided to return for a 13th season.
The Chiefs begin their preseason on Saturday against the Cardinals, and will travel to Brazil for their Week 1 matchup against the Chargers.

Browns rookie QB Dillon Gabriel to start vs. Eagles

August 16 - Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel will start for the Cleveland Browns in Saturday's preseason game at Philadelphia, the team announced. Drafted in the third round in April, Gabriel missed the preseason opener with hamstring tightness and returned to practice on Monday. Fellow rookie signal-caller Shedeur Sanders, who threw two touchdown passes in the Aug. 8 preseason opener at Carolina, will not play against the Eagles due to an oblique injury. "When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw," head coach Kevin Stefanski said of Sanders. "So unfortunately, (it's) going to put him down for a little bit here. We'll treat it day to day and see how he responds. But want to be smart because he's a thrower, so you can't push that thing." Stefanski said veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, 40, is healthy but will not play for the second consecutive week. With Kenny Pickett working his way back from a hamstring injury and Deshaun Watson likely out for the year with an Achilles injury, that leaves only Gabriel and Tyler Huntley available to take snaps in Philadelphia. Gabriel was selected 94th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after putting up big numbers at three college stops: UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon. Still on the board 50 picks later, the Browns chose Sanders to end a well-publicized draft weekend crash from projections of a top-50 draft rating. Gabriel, 24, said earlier this week that he won't overthink it if he starts against the reigning Super Bowl champions. "I try to just stay in the moment. I'll look forward to that moment once it comes and be right where my feet are," Gabriel said. "The best competitors know how to stay present and be themselves by competing at a high level one play at a time." Gabriel completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 18,722 yards with 155 touchdowns and 32 interceptions across 64 games in college from 2019-24. He rushed for 1,209 yards and 33 scores. --Field Level Media

Orioles call up No. 3 prospect Dylan Beavers for MLB debut

August 16 - The Baltimore Orioles selected the contract of outfielder Dylan Beavers, their No. 3 prospect as ranked by MLB Pipeline, on Saturday. He is expected to make his major league debut Saturday night when the Orioles meet the Astros in Houston. Baltimore selected the 6-foot-5 Beavers with the No. 33 overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft. The left-handed batter has appeared in 94 games this season at Triple-A Norfolk and has a slash line of .304/.420/.515/.935. He has 104 hits, 78 runs, 18 homers, 51 RBIs and 23 steals. Overall, he has appeared in 361 games over four minor league seasons, with a career average of .278, 44 homers, 180 RBIs and 87 stolen bases. Beavers, who turned 24 on Monday, played three collegiate seasons at Cal. He can play all three outfield positions. In a corresponding move, the Orioles designated outfielder Greg Allen for assignment. The Orioles signed Allen, 32, last week after the Chicago Cubs released him. He was hitless in 14 at-bats. --Field Level Media

Ambassador: 'I want that Super Bowl in Britain'

August 16 - England's ambassador to the United States wants the NFL to stage a Super Bowl in Great Britain. "I've made a big pitch for the first Super Bowl outside the U.S. to take place in Britain," Peter Mandelson told the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on Thursday, according to The Times, the oldest national daily newspaper in the U.K. "I want that Super Bowl in Britain. I don't care when it takes place, but I want it announced while I'm ambassador," he added. "We love it, we love it." The NFL has been playing regular-season games in England since 2007, but the jump to hosting a Super Bowl is as big as the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to the growing popularity of the league across Europe, Mandelson's interest likely includes a financial component. Net profits for host cities range anywhere from $150 million to $1 billion, depending on the source. Super Bowl LX is scheduled for Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 8, 2026, followed by Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., in 2027 and Super Bowl LXII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in 2028. This season's international NFL slate includes games in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Madrid, Spain; Dublin, Ireland; Berlin, Germany; and three in London. --Field Level Media
