Mumbai Metro 3 services from BKC to Worli begin
Services of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli became operational on Saturday (May 10, 2025).
Earlier, Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as Aqua Line, was only operational in the suburban stretch between JVLR Aarey and BKC, which was thrown open last year.
Mumbai Metro line-1 (Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova), Metro Line 2A (Dahisar East-Andheri West ) and Metro Line 7 (Andheri East-Dahisar East) are operational in suburban areas.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday (May 9, 2025) flagged off the phase 2A stretch between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli and announced that the final phase of the Metro Line 3 between Worli and Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai will become operational in August.
A spokesperson of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) said the operations began at 6.30 a.m., and the first train departed from Worli Naka station, while another train departed from JVLR Aarey at the same time.
He said the services will be operational from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm, except on Sunday, when trains will run from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.
One of the passengers who travelled in the morning from Shitaladevi station to Siddhivinayak Temple station posted on social media that there were hardly any commuters, as most people were unaware of extended operations.
Phase 2A is 9.77 km long, and its tunnel has been built through the 'rockbed' underneath the Mithi River, officials said.
It has six stations, including Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk.
The underground corridor will provide metro connectivity to offices in the Worli, Lower Parel, and Prabhadevi areas from BKC, the biggest business hub in the city.
It will also ease the commute to Siddhivinayak and Shitaladevi temples, Mahim Dargah, and recreational places such as Shivaji Park and Ravindra Natya Mandir.
As per the MMRC, the minimum fare will be ₹10, and the maximum fare will be ₹40 for the journey in phase 2A of the underground corridor.
For the travel between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk, passengers will have to shell out ₹60.
MMRC has planned 244 services on the corridor with eight Metro trains, and the travel time between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 15-20 minutes, while that between JVRL Aarey and Acharya Atre Chowk will be 36 minutes.
The headway between two trains will be 6 minutes and 20 seconds.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will open the last 76-km phase of the Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, from Igatpuri to Amane near Bhiwandi, on Thursday. This phase completes the 701-km expressway end-to-end for traffic. The recently finished section cuts across the hilly Sahyadri range and features a number of infrastructure achievements that make it the technically most demanding and important phase of the project. Among the most outstanding features is the 8-km twin tunnel near Igatpuri, which is currently the longest and widest in Maharashtra. At 9.12 m tall and 17.61 m wide, it is also the first in the country to have an advanced fire-fighting system on board. The tunnel bypasses the historically challenging Kasara Ghat and enables vehicles to make the journey from Igatpuri to Kasara within eight minutes. Apart from this tunnel, this segment boasts 17 large valley viaducts covering about 10.5 km. Some of the piers in these viaducts go up to 84 m high, indicative of the magnitude of work done across mountainous stretches. The longest of these viaducts is 2.28 km long, providing motorists a more comfortable and secure ride across what used to be difficult routes. Three interchanges have also been constructed in the section at Igatpuri, Khutghar and Amane to facilitate entry and exit. According to officials of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, the project involved massive utility relocations, such as the shifting of over 60 power lines and building a railway overbridge. Once this section is opened, passengers can drive from Nagpur to Mumbai in only eight hours. The expressway should cut travel times, particularly for those travelling from the Thane-Mumbai corridor to Shirdi or carrying agricultural commodities from Nashik district to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The last stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg not only decongests traffic on highways but also can aid safer travel, economic growth and better connectivity throughout the state. With cutting-edge engineering and holistic planning, the stretch is the last piece of what is now the most advanced and ambitious infrastructure corridor in India.

Creek bridge at Vashi, Bhiwandi-Igatpuri stretch of Samruddhi super expressway to open today
Mumbai: The three-lane Mumbai-bound arm of the new Thane creek bridge at Vashi will be commissioned by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and his two deputies, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, on Thursday at 1 pm through an online ceremony from Igatpuri, where they will throw open the 76 km Bhiwandi-Igatpuri stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur super expressway for motorists. With the opening of the south-bound arm, the traffic in the morning peak hours will get decongested as there will be six lanes available on the bridge against the existing three lanes, which caused a bottleneck given the 12-lane width of the Sion-Panvel highway on either side. The north-bound arm was opened in Oct, giving relief to the weekend traffic bound for tourist destinations. Given the toll naka that existed there, the bridge was a necessity amid the creation of the new airport, part of which is slated to open soon. Now, the state cabinet has given its formal approval to hand out Rs 780 crore assistance to the MSRDC to pay the toll collecting contractor, Mumbai Entry Point Ltd, to permanently do away with toll collection from cars and SUVs at five entry points of Mumbai, namely, Vashi, Airoli, Mulund, Thane and Dahisar. The traffic coming from old Nashik highway towards Mumbai and wanting to take the Samruddhi Mahamarg for Nagpur will have to take a left turn on a temporarily built road ahead of Shangrila junction in Bhiwandi at Aamne village and then take a U-turn via an underpass built 600 metres ahead of the junction, to eventually come back on the Nagpur-bound Samruddhi arm. MSRDC MD Anil Kumar Gaikwad said this temporary arrangement will be there only for four-five months till the Delhi-Mumbai expressway corridor completes the construction of the clover leaf junction that will offer smooth connectivity from all the directions.

Samruddhi Mahamarg set to open fully: How it will help, why getting to it from Mumbai remains a challenge
Maharashtra's most ambitious road infrastructure project, the 701-km-long Samruddhi Mahamarg, will become fully operational on Thursday (June 5) after the final 76-km stretch from Igatpuri in Nashik to Amane in Thane is inaugurated. The expressway has been billed as a game changer that will slash travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to just seven hours. The Samruddhi Mahamarg – officially Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg – was conceived during Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's first term in 2016. The rare greenfield expressway would be a high-speed corridor between Mumbai, the state's commercial capital, and Nagpur, its winter capital, and cut the travel time between the two cities to just seven hours. The Rs 55,335 crore project required the acquisition of more than 8,800 hectares of land from almost 24,000 farmers in 10 districts. The first phase of the six-lane (expandable to eight) access-controlled expressway was inaugurated in December 2022. The inauguration of the final, most crucial Igatpuri-Amane stretch will make the entire 701-km corridor fully functional. Connectivity to Mumbai Although popularly known as the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, the Samruddhi Mahamarg doesn't actually begin in Mumbai. It starts from Amane in the adjoining Thane district, and its entry point is about 63 km from Mantralaya, the state's administrative headquarters – a distance that typically takes around 2 hours and 10 minutes to cover even during non-peak traffic hours. For those accessing it from Amane and beyond, however, the project, which is world-class in design and execution, offers significant connectivity benefits. The new 76-km stretch, that will be inaugurated on Thursday, will be especially impactful. With the opening of this final segment, travel time between Amane and Igatpuri will be halved from more than 90 minutes to just 40 minutes. It will also eliminate the need for commuters currently joining the expressway at Ghoti to navigate the long, winding Kasara Ghat on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Instead of the steep 450-metre climb through the Western Ghats on the old Mumbai-Nashik Highway, the new alignment features a straighter route with an elevation gain of only 160 metres, significantly reducing both travel time and fuel consumption. Smoothing the way for Mumbaikars For commuters travelling from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, the nearest access point for Samruddhi Mahamarg is near Bhiwandi, close to Shangrila Water Park, via the existing Mumbai-Nashik Highway. The area around Bhiwandi is a major logistics hub, crowded with warehouses and heavy commercial traffic. Recognising the difficulties commuters face in accessing Samruddhi Mahamarg, the Maharashtra government has proposed the expansion and eight-laning of a crucial 23-km stretch from Thane to Vadape, near the entry point of the expressway. This segment is part of the busy Mumbai-Nashik Highway, a vital corridor for traffic headed towards North Maharashtra, Delhi, and beyond. However, the stretch has several bottlenecks, most notably the narrow Kasheli Bridge, a part of which collapsed last year. In 2019, the state launched a Rs 1,252 crore project to widen the road and build new bridges. The project was set to be completed in 2021, but has been plagued by delays – the current deadline for completion in end-2025. The completion of the upgradation will bring the promise of seamless, high-speed connectivity offered by Samruddhi Mahamarg closer to reality.
