Ana de Armas rumoured for Marvel role amid fan speculation over Rogue casting in upcoming MCU saga

Express Tribune5 days ago
Ana de Armas is reportedly being considered for a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sparking widespread fan speculation that she could portray Rogue in upcoming X-Men storylines.
The Cuban-Spanish actor rose to prominence in Blade Runner 2049 before starring in Knives Out and No Time To Die. She recently headlined Ballerina, a John Wick spinoff in which she played an assassin raised by the Ruska Roma syndicate.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Armas is 'being eyed' for a significant MCU role. While Marvel Studios has not confirmed the news, many fans believe she could take on the role of Anna Marie, better known as Rogue, one of Marvel Comics' most recognisable mutants.
Disney's 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox returned the X-Men film rights to Marvel Studios. While some mutants have already appeared in the MCU, their full introduction is expected in Phase 7, widely thought to be the 'Mutant Saga'.
In the comics, Rogue can absorb the life force, memories, abilities, and superpowers of others through touch. Anna Paquin previously portrayed the character in Fox's X-Men films, but Marvel is expected to cast a new actor for future appearances.
Online reactions have been divided, with many social media users convinced Armas fits the role. One wrote, 'If she can master a Southern accent, that's Rogue, sugah.'
Another commented, 'She will 100% be Rogue.' Meanwhile, others have suggested alternative characters, including Magik, Elektra, X-23, and Kitty Pryde.
Names such as Margaret Qualley, Jenna Ortega, and Keke Palmer have also been mentioned by fans for the role.
For now, Marvel Studios has made no official casting announcements. Until then, speculation continues as audiences await more details on the MCU's integration of the X-Men.

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday with surprising twist

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is officially set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but with one major twist. According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Wade Wilson will be part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster, he will not join the Avengers team in the film. Avengers: Doomsday marks the return of the Avengers franchise after the Multiverse Saga introduced no new entries. Marvel revealed the film's cast earlier this year, including returning MCU veterans like Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The announcement also confirmed several unexpected appearances from Fox's original X-Men cast, including James Marsden, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart. The casting news sparked speculation about the movie's plot, especially with the inclusion of characters from past Marvel adaptations. However, the initial absence of Deadpool, Wolverine, and Spider-Man left fans questioning how the crossover events would unfold. Reynolds recently hinted at his involvement through social media, fueling rumors that were confirmed with this latest report. While Deadpool will appear, his role will reportedly be separate from the Avengers' main storyline. Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin soon, with the cast list expected to expand further as Marvel continues to surprise fans with unexpected additions from across its cinematic history.

'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' model leak hints at possible Savage Hulk return in upcoming MCU film

Mark Ruffalo is set to reprise his role as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and new merchandise leaks may have given fans a clue about the Hulk's next transformation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Hulk's portrayal in recent MCU instalments has faced criticism from fans who miss the character's earlier, more aggressive persona seen in The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, the Hulk has not appeared in his 'rage mode' form, with Avengers: Endgame introducing 'Smart Hulk' off-screen. According to YouTuber Displaying Model Behavior, Hasbro's 2026 Marvel Legends toy line will feature figures for Spider-Man, the Punisher and the Hulk — reportedly 'a savage version of the Jade Giant.' This has led to speculation that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could see the return of a more ferocious Hulk. Fan theories suggest something in the film may cause Banner to lose control, potentially leading to a confrontation with Spider-Man and the Punisher. Social media posts reacting to the leak have voiced enthusiasm for the idea, with one user writing: 'Please let this be true, we need the Savage Hulk back.' Another added: 'We wanted this.' While early speculation pointed to Mr Negative as a possible trigger for Hulk's rage, insiders, including The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez, have stated the character will not appear in the film. The main antagonist remains unknown, although The Hollywood Reporter has claimed that 'Spider-Man, Punisher and Hulk will all fight one another before figuring out who the real bad guys are.'
