By: Azmie Lim Text Size: Police arresting the suspect in front of a hotel. LAHAD DATU: Police here arrested a 32-year-old Indonesian for having syabu worth RM641. District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau, said the labourer was detained in front of a hotel in Jalan Panji, here, on Tuesday. Police detained the suspect upon receiving an tip. 'The team seized a translucent plastic containing a substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.83 grammes. 'The suspect also tested positive for Methamphetamine,' he said, adding that investigation is ongoing under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Police urged the public to provide information to assist the police in combating drug-related criminal activities in the district.

KOTA BELUD: The body of a 46-year-old foreigner was found washed ashore at Kampung Rampayan Laut, here, Saturday. The victim, believed to have fallen into the sea while fishing, was discovered by a member of the public at 8.55am, who immediately alerted the authorities. District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said a team was dispatched to the scene. Initial investigations showed the man had gone fishing near the river mouth when his boat capsized due to strong waves, causing him to fall into the sea and be swept away by currents. The body was sent to the Kota Belud Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem. The incident occurred around midnight at a building along Jalan Dunlop, while the suspect was detained by police at 1.50am in the town area, said Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh. According to police, the man had returned home and became enraged when his wife, in her 50s, did not open the door quickly, resulting in him assaulting her. 'The woman sustained bruises and injuries on her arm, and lodged a police report which led to the suspect's arrest by the roadside,' Champin said. He stressed that police take domestic violence cases seriously and will not hesitate to take firm action against perpetrators. BEAUFORT: A motorcyclist was killed early Saturday morning after his Yamaha NVX collided with a concrete barrier along Jalan Beaufort near Kg. Lumat. The victim has been identified as Emang Abu, 50, a Bugis and private sector worker. Beaufort District Police Chief Supt Wong Leong Meng said the incident occurred at around 6am as the rider was travelling from Papar to Beaufort. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that upon reaching a left diversion at the Pan Borneo road construction site, the rider went straight ahead and crashed into the barrier, sustaining serious head and body injuries,' he said. Emang was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer. His body was later sent to the hospital for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
