Netflix 'axe huge reality show after just one series as it's branded the most expensive flop in years'

Daily Mail29-07-2025
Netflix have reportedly axed huge reality show Battle Camp after just one series.
The celebrity challenge show made its debut on the streaming service back in April, however, it failed to make an impact with viewers and critics alike, reports The Sun.
The programme was filmed in Mexico and featured a host of reality stars from shows including Too Hot to Handle, Love Is Blind and The Circle.
However, it has not been given the green light for a second series due to a poor response from audiences and high costs, with the publication reporting that it's Netflix's 'most expensive flop in years.'
A source said of the 10-part show: 'There were so many individuals taking part in the show, with 18 contestants in total. The fact that they all charged a fee to take part and that it was filmed on location, made it unusually costly.
'Plus the format — set in a camp which was purpose-built from scratch for the show — relied on multiple challenges, each costing big money to set up. It was an expense Netflix would have been happy to shoulder, except it didn't meet their expectations.
'The hope was that it would create the sense of there being a 'Netflix reality universe', but most people who watched it didn't think the show was out of this world.'
Daily Mail have contacted Netflix for comment.
Battle Camp's axe comes hot on the heels of another expensive to make celeb-based show, Celebrity Bear Hunt, also being cut after one series back in June.
The programme, which was set in Costa Rica and was hosted by Holly Willoughby alongside Bear Grylls, will not return despite the star saying that he was hopeful it would.
Sources close to the show which aired in February say that while the ratings did well it was expensive to make and Netflix are now planning to do more live events rather than pre-recorded shows.
One told Daily Mail: 'Everyone was very proud of the show but when it came to it, it was just so expensive to make.
'You had to have a whole set in Costa Rica, loads of staff and loads of celebrities. The overheads were eyewatering.'
It is understood that cheaper locations were looked at but nothing was appeared to be suitable.

Meanwhile, Netflix axed a 'gem of a series' that has been dubbed 'fantastically binge-worthy' despite its perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Wrestlers, directed by Greg Whitley, hit the streaming service back on 13 September 2023.
Netflix's official synopsis reads: 'At a storied professional wrestling organization, new owners and a roster of stars strive to make an impact beyond the ring in this documentary series.'
It stars professional wrestler Al Snow, 62, and those who are in The Ohio Valley Wrestling school.
The docu-series aired a total of seven episodes and unfortunately it has been confirmed that it won't be coming back.

It is based on the book of the same name by May Cobb and stars Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) in the main role alongside a star-studded cast including Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding) and Malin Åkerman (Billions). Brittany plays Sophie who moves to Texas from Cambridge, Massachusetts with her family and grows close to Malin's character, Margo, an enigmatic socialite with plenty secrets of her own. Sophie is warned to stay away from her new circle of wealthy acquaintances but fails to do so and, before long, the body of a teen girl is found and they all become embroiled in the mystery of her death. netflix SANK GIG Huge Hollywood star reveals Netflix have AXED his first TV show Rebecca spoke about the women in the show and praised them for being unapologetically sexy while behaving very badly. The showrunner also defended some of the series' more raunchy plotlines after viewers took to social media to label The Hunting Wives as "perverted" and vulgar. "It's so fun, and juicy and sexy. Everyone is behaving so badly," she told the New York Post. "I wanted to do an exploration of women behaving badly, unapologetic sexual conquest running rampant, and just something fun." Rebecca also praised Malin's ability to embrace her sexuality during her nude scenes, as Margo starts an affair with her 18-year-old son's best friend and falls pregnant. "It was important to find an actress, not necessarily that was willing to do nudity per se, but that really felt comfortable with the sexuality and owning that power that she has," she said. Love Is Blind UK: Meet the Season 2 contestants looking to find love in 2025 "I think there's a fantasy of freedom or power that maybe we don't feel so much as middle-aged women." The showrunner added: "I just think TV has evolved. The first anti-heroes were all men. "Now, there can be more female anti-heroes and I certainly think Margot Banks falls into that category." Despite some of the outrage on social media, The Hunting Wives has managed to rack up an 80 percent score of aggregate movie rating site, Rotten Tomatoes. While it is not yet available to view in the U.K, Deadline reported that it would not air on Netflix as the streaming giant did not acquire the series from producer Lionsgate Television in any market other than the U.S. "Lionsgate has sold the series in 10 additional territories, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy and India, where it will launch soon," Deadline reported.

Netflix My Life With The Walter Boys announces major season 3 update

Netflix's My Life With The Walter Boys will be back later this month for its second season. WARNING: This article contains spoilers from My Life With The Walter Boys. ‌ My Life With The Walter Boys season two is merely weeks away, but there's already thrilling news about its third instalment. ‌ The coming-of-age romantic drama truly set tongues wagging when it initially dropped on Netflix two years ago, with Jackie Howard (played by Nikki Rodriguez) compelled to abandon her former existence in New York following the tragic loss of her family. ‌ She's welcomed by her mum's closest mate Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty) and resides with her husband and 11 children, comprising 10 boys and one girl, Parker (Alix West Lefler). A romantic triangle swiftly developed between 15 year old Jackie and siblings Alex (Ashby Gentry) and Cole Walters (Noah LaLonde), but a steamy snog with the latter prompted her to bolt from Colorado in the concluding episode. Whilst series two will shortly pick up from the explosive events of the inaugural season, Netflix has now delivered a crucial announcement concerning the third chapter. ‌ It was revealed back in May that My Life With The Walter Boys would be making a comeback for series three. Nevertheless, Netflix has subsequently announced that filming on the third season commenced today, Wednesday, August 6. ‌ Posting on X, previously Twitter, the streaming giant shared a snap of Rodriguez, Gentry and LaLonde alongside the message: "My Life With The Walter Boys season two? August 28. Season three? Now in production." Supporters couldn't hold back from rushing to the comments section to rejoice, with one viewer penning: "Season two dropping soon and Season 3 already in the works?" "My Life with the Walter Boys fans are eating good! Can't wait to see where the story goes next. ‌ "Double treat incoming!" a second declared, whilst another shared: "Season two isn't even out yet and we're already getting season three? Nice." A wave of additional comments also poured in, featuring "Rate this", "wow" and "so excited". ‌ Meanwhile, a viewer remarked: "Already? Don't make us wait another two years then." Production commenced on August 6 and is understood to be set to wrap on December 1, 2025. An official premiere date for the third series hasn't been revealed but it is anticipated to arrive sometime in 2026 so the delay will be considerably briefer this time round. In the interim, enthusiasts have series two to look forward to but how will Jackie's romances with Alex and Cole unfold as she returns to Silver Falls? My Life With The Walter Boys series two launches on Thursday, August 28, on Netflix.
