Four detained over drugs in Lahad Datu

By: Azmie Lim Text Size: Two of the suspects. LAHAD DATU: Four men were detained in several operations at Lahad Datu town for possessing and abusing drugs. District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said those men aged between 32 and 45 were detained following the Op Tapis conducted by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. Jimmy said the first arrest involving a 45-year-old man was made at about 10.40am near Jalan Pantai. He said the result of inspection conducted on the man found a translucent packet containing 0.14 grams of substances believed to be Syabu. 'The suspect was also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) 1952,' he said. According to Jimmy, about 3.45pm, two men aged 32 and 34 were detained while wandering in suspicious behaviors at Kampung Puyut. He said following inspection on both men found one of them possessing two translucent packets containing substances believed to be Syabu weighing 0.28 grams and two aluminium foils. Urine tests conducted on both of them found one of the suspects positive of taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. Investigation of this case was conducted under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952. 'About 4.30pm, the team arrested a 40-year-old man who was in suspicious behavior at the roadside of Jalan Kastam Baru. 'Result of inspection on the suspect found a cigarette box containing 27 translucent plastic packets filled with substances believed to be Syabu weighing 5.51 grams,' said Jimmy. He said urine tests conducted on the suspect found he was positive of taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. The suspect also had two previous records related to drug cases. PM wants swift, transparent probe into Zara Qairina's death

The prime minister said he had discussed the matter with Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure the probe is conducted swiftly and comprehensively. 'There was a death recently, and the Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek) is being attacked and accused of various things. What has become of our country? This death is not a trivial matter,' he said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day 2025 here today. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar also reminded the public not to make speculations or accusations without evidence, emphasising that Malaysia is a nation founded on the rule of law. 'This is a nation of law, not slander. Whoever is involved in a criminal act such as murder will not be protected,' Anwar said. Zara Qairina, 13, was believed to have fallen from the third floor and was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar, Sabah, at 4 am on July 16. She was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital here on July 17. The student's death quickly went viral, sparking widespread public reaction on social media. Russian missile attack injures seven in Mykolaiv, Ukraine says
(Reuters) -A Russian missile strike on the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine injured at least seven people and destroyed or damaged dozens of homes and civilian infrastructure buildings, the regional governor said on Sunday. Two of the injured were hospitalised as a result of the late Saturday attack, Mykolaiv Governor Vitaliy Kim said on the Telegram messaging app. Kim posted photos showing single residential buildings almost destroyed, with building debris spread around. He said 23 private homes, 12 apartment buildings and a post office were damaged. Reuters could not independently verify the report. There was no immediate comment from Russia about the attack. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Moscow launched with a full-scale invasion on Ukraine in February 2022. Ukraine's air force said on Telegram that Russia had launched 76 attack drones and seven missiles targeting Ukraine overnight, striking eight locations throughout Ukraine. Ukraine's air defence units destroyed 60 of the drones and one missile, it said. In the early days of the war, the Mykolaiv region stood on the front lines, facing frequent artillery strikes and aerial attacks. Even after Russian forces were pushed back in late 2022, drones and missiles have remained a constant danger to communities. In the front-line regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, at least three people were killed and more than 12 injured as a result of Russia's attacks over the 24 hours into Sunday morning, regional governors said. Five injured after van crash in Keningau

The Toyota Hiace van was reported to have crashed at 11.38pm, with members of the public managing to rescue all five victims before firefighters arrived. Firefighters from the Keningau station provided initial treatment to three injured women at the scene. Two injured men were taken to the hospital by the public, while the three women were transported by the Fire and Rescue Department's EMRS unit.
